Professor Roger Rangel, Chair of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department has received The arcis Monturiol Medal in Catalonia, Spain. This Medal is awarded to Professor Rangel for distinction in science and technology and for contributions to the scientific development of Catalonia. The specific citation reads: Roger H. Rangel: PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and Chair of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at UC Irvine, has over 150 publications and has made important contributions in the fields of fluid mechanics and transport processes, particularly in dispersed multiphase flows involving particles and sprays with applications in materials sciences and combustion. As director, since 1995, of the Balsells Fellowship Program and California-Catalonia Engineering Innovation Program, he has coordinated the activities of over 60 Catalan engineering students at UC Irvine.
