Anna Torrents Cabestany, a 2005 Balsells fellow in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering has received her PhD degree from UC Irvine in November of 2011. She culminated her studies by publishing an article in the November issue of Science Magazine titled “Ultralight Metallic Microlattices”.
The lightest material ever made was fabricated at HRL Laboratories LLC (Malibu, CA)and it was nano- and macro-mechanically characterized at Caltech and UCI, respectively.
