andres-adam-smallAndrés Manuel Adam Alberdi was born in Caracas, Venezuela in 1993, and moved to Barcelona in 2002. In 2015, he graduated from UPC’s Escola Tècnica i Superior d’Enginyeries Industrial i Aeronàutica de Terrassa (ETSEIAT), obtaining a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering. After graduating, he completed the first year of the Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at ETSEIAT, as a continuation of his undergraduate studies.

Apart from his studies at UPC, he obtained the National Higher Certificate in Aeronautics from Glyndwr University in Wales in 2013, and did an internship at Hydac International’s headquarters in Saarbrücken, Germany in 2014. During his year as a master’s student, he worked as Junior Researcher at CIMNE, helping in the development of a fluid-structure interaction module for Kratos, a multi-area, finite-element solver.

In 2016, Andrés was awarded a Balsells Graduate Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His main research interests are aerodynamics, aeroelasticity, compressible fluid dynamics and aircraft design. He enjoys travelling, reading, practicing all kind of sports, martial arts and playing the flute.

guillem-benosa-smallGuillem Benosa Espinet was born in Barcelona in 1992. In June 2014, he graduated from UPC’s Escola Tècnica i Superior d’Enginyeries Industrial i Aeronàutica de Terrassa (ETSEIAT), obtaining a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering. He published his first book Design and simulation of a flying wing in 2011 as a first committed step into the fluid dynamics world. The publication received different awards such as the 1st prize of the Technological HS Graduation Projects Awards given by the ARGO Foundation and the 1st prize of the HS Graduation Projects Awards given by the M. V. M. Foundation. After graduating, he started the Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at ETSEIAT. In the summer of 2016, he was awarded a Balsells Graduate Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His main research interests are numerical methods for fluid dynamics and aeroelasticity.

He is a self-taught electronic music producer of national recognition having performed in multiple countries in Europe. This experience heavily helped him to develop strong creative and entrepreneurial skills.

alba-bosch-smallAlba Bosch Font was born in Granollers in 1993. She graduated from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Industrial de Barcelona (ETSEIB), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.

During her senior year, she had the opportunity to work as an intern at Cetaqua, Water Technology Center, where she worked on her Bachelor’s thesis, testing the capacities of an innovative technology for biological wastewater treatment.

After graduating, she did a 6-month internship with Procter & Gamble Brussels Innovation Center, where she led two key projects – one focusing on the reduction of waste generated in a manufacturing process and the other on the automatization of a product quality check.

She also had the opportunity to work for 5 months in the Vehicle Quality Engineering Department at Nissan Motor Iberica S.A., where she provided support to ensure vehicle quality.

In 2016, she was awarded the Balsells Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of California, Irvine. Her main research interests are Sustainable Energy Systems and Waste Reduction. In her spare time, she enjoys music, hanging out with friends and traveling to new places.

eduardo-marino-smallEduardo Mariño Fernández was born in Santander in 1991. In 2015, he graduated from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyers de Camins, Canals i Ports de Barcelona (ETSECCPB), Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), obtaining the degree of Civil Engineer. His last year was focused on transportation and he investigated the implementation of electric cars in his degree thesis under the advice of Dr. José Magín.

In the summer of 2010, he was awarded a Fellowship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison to be part of the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) in Nanotechnology working in a broad engineering environment under the supervision of Prof. Nicholas Abbott.

During his studies, he had the opportunity to study at the University of Aachen (RWTH) in Germany as a part of the Erasmus program. There, Eduardo conducted his senior project (PFC) in Civil Engineering under the advice of Prof. Christoph Butenweg in the structures department (LBB) which consisted in the design of a storage tank under the effect of earthquakes.

After completing his degree, he started a Master’s Degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology at the University of Barcelona (UB). He joined the Micro and Nanotechnology group (MIND) where he studied new memristive materials under the supervision of Prof. Blas Garrido.

In 2016, Eduardo was awarded a Balsells Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Civil Engineering in the field of Transportation Systems at the University of California, Irvine, in the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS).

His research interests are transportation systems and technology innovation. He enjoys playing sports, traveling and playing the piano.

gerard-moreso-smallGerard Moreso Subirats was born in Barcelona in 1993. He graduated from the Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Industrial i Aeronàutica de Terrassa (ETSEIAT) in 2015, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Engineering in Industrial Technology. During his last semester, he worked on his final project studying the building energy efficiency of one of ETSEIAT’s buildings.

In September 2015, Gerard started a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering at ETSEIAT. In 2016, he was awarded a Balsells Graduate Fellowship to pursue an M.S. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His main research interests are manufacturing and mechanical design. In his spare time, he enjoys travelling, playing all kind of sports reading and playing the piano.

jordi-poblador-smallJordi Poblador Ibañez was born in Barcelona in 1993. In September of 2015, he graduated from Escola Tècnica Superior d’Enginyeria Industrial i Aeronàutica de Terrassa (ETSEIAT) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), obtaining a degree in Aerospace Technology Engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he spent 6 months in the Universität Stuttgart as an international student. Once he graduated, he started the Master’s Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at ETSEIAT.

His Bachelor’s Thesis consisted in the development of a code to solve mass, momentum and energy equations of fluid dynamics under the tutelage of members of the Centre Tecnològic de Transferència de Calor (CTTC) from UPC, Terrassa. Furthermore, he continued collaborating with the CTTC while doing the first year of the Master’s degree.

In 2016, he was awarded with a Balsells Fellowship to pursue graduate studies in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His main research interests are numerical methods for solving the governing equations of fluid dynamics and aerodynamics. He enjoys traveling, hiking and hanging out with friends.

josep-serrahima-smallJosep Maria Serrahima de Cambra was born in Barcelona in 1994. In June of 2016, he finished his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from UPC’s Escola Universitària d’Enginyeria Tècnica Industrial de Barcelona (EUETIB). During his senior year, he worked in the Control, Dynamics and Applications research group (CoDAlab), within the department of Applied Mathematics at ETUETIB, to do research on Structural Health Monitoring of wind turbines. The goal of this research was to create a method to detect structural damage in wind turbines using statistical analysis of the data collected by its sensors.

Additionally, he has combined his engineering studies with the practice of fencing at a high level, as he is in the Elite Athletes’ Program of the Catalan government, after competing both nationally and internationally in European and World Championships.

In 2016, he was awarded a Balsells Graduate Fellowship to pursue an MS degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. His main interests are fluid dynamics and biofluid mechanics.
