The California-Catalunya Engineering Innovation Program builds on the existing strength of the Balsells-Generalitat Fellowship program at the HSSoE at UC Irvine. The California-Catalonia Program for Engineering Innovation will sponsor research partnerships between academia and industry involving both California and Catalonia. The research should explore new approaches to support and sustain innovations in the translation of research into results that benefit both California and Catalonia. The long-term goal of the program is to stimulate the transformation of knowledge created at the academic level into innovations that create new wealth and build strong local, regional and inter-related national economies.
Eligibility
Proposals should be submitted by members of the academic senate eligible for Principal Investigator status and with appointments in the HSSoE.
Furthermore, the proposing team should at least include, in addition to the HSSoE PI, an engineering faculty member from a Catalan University or Research Institute, an Industrial partner, and a Catalan student and or post-doctoral fellow. The industrial partner may be based in the U.S. or in Catalonia and may include non-profit institutions, private sector firms, and trade and professional associations.
Students participating in the project should be either current or incoming Balsells graduate students or post-doctoral fellows or a student working under the mentorship of the Catalan faculty member. Financial support for Balsells-fellowship students under this program is only acceptable for continuing students since first-year Balsells-fellowship students are supported by other funds.
Deadline: May 15
